Just give them a few more weeks scooby and when they've 'got you' they will soon ease off and talk about you behind your back.

Back from the Memorial
by ScoobySnax inwell like i say, just got back from the memorial, have been going most years, but this year i went by chance (knew it was roughly at 7pm at the nearest kh) to my old congregation that i grew up in.
i didn't find the "evil" people spoke of here on this forum, or those too stupid to see.
all i did see was people i hadn't seen in years, and let me tell you, what lovely people they were.

At what age did you join the Witnesses?
by JH in.
at what age would a person have to be to join the witnesses and not suffer too much?.
if they are children, it robs their youth.. if they join in the teens, they won't get a decent education.. if they join at 20 years old, they will have to marry a witness.. if they join at 30, i guess that would be less destructive because they already are married, have children, have a house, an education and a job.. at what age did you join, and how did it affect you?

Dragged up in it from birth,
washed in it,
fed on it,
now shat on it.
[sorry for lowering the tone], but it's taken me a good few years to re-educate myself but I'm proud of that and still learning.

April 2003 KM: ``Mind Your Manners in Public"
by Room 215 innow that it's dispensed with its annual ``don't you dare partake" in advance of their spring travesty of a communion, the faithful and discreet slave shifts its focus to another seasonal perennial: the km's recurrent exhortation to ``mind your manners at this summer's district conventions.
by ``connecting the dots" between the leadership's admonition to mind one's manners at the hotel, to tip approriately, to avoid ``double-dipping'' by eating and then loading up on unapproved takeaways for lunch at hotels that prvide complimentary breakfast, to refrain from losing all inhibitions in after-hour socializing and to forego the donning of outlandish skin-tight (or conversely loose fitting ``hip-hop" outfits) forte duration of the assembly, a picture quite different from the idealized notion of jws being a worldwide fraternity of solidly mature, temperate ministers who lives find fulfilment only in the service of god and their fellow man.. what sort of adults need to be lectured in such terms, let alone a group that boasts of its aloofness from satan's world?
what does it suggest about leadership's awareness of how far removed from reality the rank and file is from their literature's stylized imagery?

I think it’s just a feeble attempt to describe part of our complex makeup. I felt the same as you when I was a JW. I think our spirituality is our contentment within ourselves, with who we are as individuals.
We all have ups and downs but we should also have times when things just seem right. When u wake up in the morning and things seem to make sense …just don’t turn the TV on, although I hardly watch it [just too patronising for me].

I thought some of this was written by us so-called ‘apostates’ not the society. It's been a while since I've read anyhthing by them but i sn’t this just full of contradictions, not that this is my point or anything new, my point is aren't they just getting blatantly beyond a joke with what they expect people to believe?
I can see things for what they really are now but t hey couldn’t have had that much control over my mind could they ? That’s kinda scary.

Are you a different person now from when you were a JW?
by NaruNaruChan ini got an e-mail today from an old high school friend who, after we met for coffee, said "wow, you're normal again!
i mean, you were boring, stuffy, and generally not much fun when you became a jw.
now you're back to the old so-and-so that i remember, i love it!

I was brought up in it. Old school friends and people I know who I meet through the kind of work I do are genuinally amazed when they meet me, they can't believe it's me because I'm so much happier and balanced and not . I've come such a long way since leaving, I can bearly remember what I was like although I can hazard a guess.
C U, Feeling good now.

how i got here
by danb71 inafter having looked at this site for almost a year and recently made small replies to threads, i should introduce myself to you all and tell you how i got here:.
i was raised as a jw.
it didn't take long to figure out that to have more independence at home, i'd better be a stand-out jw.

Hello Dan, as a newbie myself, I'd like to thank you for sharing your personal story. I've got a lot to learn post sorting my head out from JW brainbashing and you seem to have turned into a nicer person despite it all, well done.

Hi, Shytears. I tried to send u a message but having problems with it. I understand where you're coming from. It must be very hard for u. Sometimes I felt as if I was stuck in some kind of mental hole and the fact is, I was. It's not fair that u have to take this sort of pressure, it is definately not your fault. The best thing I ever did was start college. This is where I met new people, although it's taken me a while to adjust, I'm making new friends, people that judge me by who 'I' am. If I was u, I'd think of an interest I like and then try and take it further by some sort of schooling or training.

Anyone live in West Yorkshire and want to start a band, [no Jw’s please] no offence it’s just that you haven’t got the dedication and commitment that is needed.
I play guitar. A mixture of Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins influences my style. I’m also into electronic music a lot and would like that to be a major influence on the music to bring it up to speed. I don’t need people who are really good on their instrument, just people who can think music and understand what makes something sound good. If you’re interested let me know. Thanks.
